Melon or Cantaloupe Juice is a simple and refreshing drink that you can prepare during summer time when going to the beach or swimming pool resort. Of course, you can prepare this sweet beverage anytime of the year as long as the fruit is available on the market. The complete ingredients are available, easier to buy and not expensive, which include using evaporated milk and sugar.
In the Philippines, this kind of refreshing drink is one of the very popular street beverages where many people are buying and enjoy sipping filed a small juice plastic bag with a straw.
Here is the procedure for Melon Juice (Filipino Cantaloupe Juice)
- 1 large melon or cantaloupe (cleaned and stripped)
- 1 big can evaporated milk
- ¼ kilo white sugar
- 1 liter of water
- Ice cubes
Using a knife, cut and slice the melon (cantaloupe) into halves. Next is to use a spoon to remove all seeds. Place the pulp and seeds in a bowl then add 1 cup of water. Repeatedly press down with the pulp and seeds using back of spoon to extract the remaining flavor.
Next is to strain the juice coming from the pulp and seeds and then set aside.
Using a melon shredder or stripper, stripe the melon meat and put the meat in a pitcher until you complete stripping. Afterwards, combine the stripped melon, the extracted juice and add the remaining water.
For the final preparation, add the evaporated milk, sugar and ice then mixed properly to balance the taste. Remember, the juice must taste the exact sweetness and be sure to keep the aroma of the melon.
When ready, serve in the glasses and prepare your favorite dessert or appetizer to enjoy!
