Pesang Tilapia (Tilapia in Ginger Soup) is an easy and very simple fish recipe that is similar to nilaga (boiled soup). The main ingredients include ginger, onion and peppercorn boiled until tender before adding the fresh tilapia for a perfect fish soup dish. The preparation very convenient and the cooking time fast to enjoy this healthful and delicious fish recipe with the whole family.
Remember that a balance diet, means eating fish and veggies on a regular basis also.
Here is the procedure for Pesang Tilapia (Tilapia in Ginger Soup)
- 1 kilo fresh Tilapia (cleaned and washed properly)
- 2 large Potatoes (peeled and cut into cubes)
- 1 large onion (peeled and chopped finely)
- 1 teaspoon peppercorn
- 2 pieces thumb-sized Ginger (cut roundly)
- 4 tablespoon of Fish Sauce
- ½ Cabbage (sliced for the dish)
- 2 bunches of Pechay or Chinese Cabbage
- 1 liter or water
- Salt to taste
After cleaning and washing the fishes thoroughly, the next step is to strain them and rub with the right amount of salt, then set aside.
Prepare a large casserole on stove; put the water, ginger, onion and then light in medium fire. Let boil for about 3-5 minutes to allow the water absorb the ingredients properly.
When boiling, add the sliced potatoes and let boil for about 8-10 minutes.
Afterwards, add the tilapia and the vegetables until wilted. Next is to add the fish sauce and salt to complete the taste. Remember not to overcook the vegetables to make them look fresh and not eliminating the nutrients.
When ready to serve, transfer the cooked dish in a soup bowl and serve with plain rice to enjoy!
